Midtarsal Joint Biomechanics: Theory, Research and Clinical Applications
The midtarsal joint (MTJ) consists of the talo-navicular joint and calcaneo-cuboid joint. Together these two joints provide the MTJ with sufficient compliance to allow the metatarsal heads to remain plantigrade on a variety of surfaces and also to allow the longitudinal arch to resist large magnitudes of ground reaction force during a wide range of weightbearing activities.
This talk will describe in detail the anatomy, biomechanics and clinical applications around the MTJ so that clinician have a better understanding of how selected interventions may affect the function of this important joint in the foot.
